Childcare Center at Saint Mary’s

At Saint Mary’s, we believe in serving our community in meaningful and transformative ways. That’s why we’re excited to announce the development of a Childcare Center—a mission-driven initiative to provide safe, affordable, and nurturing care for children while addressing a critical need in our community.

The mission of the Saint Mary’s Childcare Center is to provide child-centered, values-based, safe, and affordable daycare for children aged 18 months to 4 years. Our goal is to create a nurturing environment that promotes spiritual, mental, and physical growth for children at all levels of development.

Why a Childcare Center?

Community Need: There is a dire need for affordable, high-quality childcare in our area.

Financial Feasibility: The center will operate independently, with no cost to the parish, and will provide competitive wages for staff.

How We Got Here

The Childcare Feasibility Committee, co-chaired by Melissa Roland and Toosie Smith, along with members Rayle Ainsworth, Jim Kane, Emily Kennerly, Valerie Kyros, and Pat Peard, has worked tirelessly to evaluate the project. With the support of a grant from the Diocese, the committee hired Meghann Carrasco, a childcare expert, to guide the process.

The committee consulted with:

  • State and Local Officials: Representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) visited the site and confirmed its suitability.

  • Community Partners: Collaborations with organizations like Coastal Enterprises and local childcare operators have been instrumental.

  • Parishioners: Feedback from the Saint Mary’s community has shaped the project’s direction.
