Attitude and Gratitude: Reflecting on 2024 and Looking Ahead to 2025
As our calendar changes to 2025, I find myself very reflective about 2024, and excited for 2025. When I look back on the year, I think about what changes we have had at Saint Mary’s, and how wonderfully we are doing. We began the year at our annual meeting and the first discussion regarding Foundation 135. I commend everyone involved in the research, planning, and fundraising aspects of our upcoming project. It has been 15 years since our last capital campaign, so we wanted to be diligent in our planning.
We have now reached the point that the planning is over, and it is time for action. Our fundraising will be in full stride soon, and our beloved Saint Mary’s will be receiving needed repairs in order to stand proud for another 135 years. We are blessed to be the stewards of such a beautiful church, and it is our responsibility to be sure it is around for generations to enjoy.
In July, Fr. Nathan shared the news of a new calling for his family. We thanked and celebrated the Ferrells, bid them adieu on Sept 29, and welcomed Rev. Jane two weeks later. Jane’s impact was immediate, especially with the organization of the Foundation 135 leadership and committees. We are very grateful and blessed to have an interim that already had a connection to Saint Mary’s and was ready to jump right in. We are also blessed to have Deacon Matthew Simpson and his compassion and humor.
As I turn the gavel over to Tom LaPlante at the end of January, I am more confident than ever that Saint Mary’s is in great hands and will continue to thrive. I smile at every Sunday service to see the chairs filled with a vibrant, Christ-centered community, brought together to celebrate the goodness of GOD and the gift of life.
I see our community spirit in everything we do—from Souper Suppers, making sandwiches for Milestone, supporting St. Elizabeth’s, and our celebration of Sparkles. There is joy everywhere at Saint Mary’s, from the magical sound of our organ and choir to the laughter of our children at Guiding RAY. There is peace and compassion at Saint Mary’s, illustrated beautifully at Be Still on Sunday Morning, and so much comfort and compassion shown through our outreach programs and prayer groups. Many thanks to all who volunteer their time and talent.
Final thanks to the dedicated staff, executive committee, and Vestry that lead Saint Mary’s into the future. I am in awe of the dedication and talent I see on our leadership teams, and I am especially thankful and grateful for Beth Shaw. Beth’s knowledge of EVERYTHING at Saint Mary’s is very comforting every day. She is always willing to help and is always there for us with a smile and a hug.
May you be filled with the Holy Spirit as we look forward to 2025 and beyond.
