Transition Update from the Wardens

Steve Conley, Senior Warden

Tom La Plante, Junior Warden

Hello members of our Saint Mary’s family,

We’re writing today in response to the letter of resignation sent yesterday from Father Nathan.

Rector transitions are not something we deal with every day, but they are something with which our Bishop’s office has a lot of experience. We have been in contact with Bishop Thomas and met with him on Friday to begin the transition process.

We are fortunate to have a very talented and qualified vestry, and we are excited to begin the search process. Our job is to ensure that everyone has confidence that we will conduct a thorough search, both for an interim and permanent rector for our church. Saint Mary’s is a very strong parish, and we have so much to offer. We are certain that we will have many qualified candidates to consider.

Communication Schedule

  • July 16: Parish-wide announcement sent.

  • July 21: Steve will speak at both services. Several vestry members will be available at coffee hour between services and after the 9:30 service.

  • July 25: The July AVE will include an update from the wardens and a note from Fr. Nathan.

  • Soon: Dr. Suzanne Roberts, from the diocesan staff, will visit Saint Mary’s to preach, celebrate, and lead a parish-wide meeting about the rector transition. She will also help us identify the gifts and skills we need in an interim priest.

Your Input Matters

All input is appreciated, and opinions are valued. Our job is constant communication. Tom and I look forward to forming teams for the interim and permanent rector searches. We will take our time to ensure the best match possible for both Saint Mary’s and our future rector.

Celebrating the Ferrell Family

Before we begin this process, we plan to send the Ferrell family off with a celebration to share wonderful stories from a parish filled with people who are thankful and grateful for their time at Saint Mary’s. Details to come!

Words of Strength from Our Bishop

“It’s not about you or me. We do everything through Christ who gives us strength. God is in charge; we’re not. This principle is primary.”

Onward!
